Burn BansThere are two separate types of burn bans; those regarding fire safety and those regarding air quality. Fire safety burn banA burn ban is in effect. A burn ban is currently in effect in Kittitas County. All burning, including recreational fires and bar-b-q briquettes cook fires are prohibited in all areas of the county, except in Fire District 51 (Snoqualmie Pass), which allows small cook fires no greater than 2' x 2' in diameter. Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue (Fire District 2)-Ellensburg area and Fire District 4 (Vantage area) are not included within the burn ban. Local burning regulations do still apply so please contact those fire districts for further burning regulations. If you have questions, you may contact the Fire Marshal's Office at 509-962-7000 or your local fire district. Kittitas County implements a burn ban when the fire danger reaches a critical level. The burn ban includes all burning in unincorporated areas of the county. Air quality burn banThe Department of Ecology (DOE) governs air quality in Kittitas County and also regulates outdoor burning for air quality purposes. For further information, please contact the Department of Ecology at 509-575-2490 or you may visit their website at http://www.ecy.wa.gov. The DOE may implement burn bans at any time during the year, and it is incumbent upon property owners to determine if an air quality burn ban is in effect. |
