Get Involved

Kittitas County and the Cities of Ellensburg, Cle Elum, and the Town of South Cle Elum recognize that a successful regional Shoreline Master Program update process, resulting in an independent Shoreline Master Program for each jurisdiction, depends on the early and continuous participation of the public.

The Public Participation Program identifies the specific objectives, interested participants, and a timeline and process for public participation activities.

Ways to Participate

You can get involved and participate in a variety of ways. Your comments and responses will be used to set goals and strategies for the updated SMPs and to ensure community visions are achieved consistent with state law and guidelines.

• Attend open house events and community visioning workshop events.
• Attend meetings of the Technical Advisory Committee and Citizen Advisory Committee.
• Attend meetings of the Board of County Commissioners and Planning Commission.
• Review reports and maps and send comments to SMPUpdate@co.kittitas.wa.us.
• Contact Anna Nelson, Contract Planner, at 509-962-7539 OR 206-802-3843.

Throughout the process there will be several opportunities to engage in review and discussion of the regional SMP. Two standing committees will be convened to assist in the Regional SMP update:

• Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) 124 KB - The TAC will meet regularly to help focus technical discussions and identify key technical and policy issues associated with the SMP update process.
• Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) – The CAC will finalize recommendations on environment designations and goals, policies and use regulations.

Check the Meetings | Materials page for details on upcoming events or to download materials from current or past meetings. Members of the public may attend the meetings and address the Committee with their thoughts and ideas. Up to ten minutes will be provided at the beginning of each meeting for public comment. The public is also encouraged to submit written comments.
