Additional Project Information
The Jail Expansion Project represents efforts bridging many years of preparation
and planning by the Law and Justice Committee, Kittitas County Commissioners,
and Sheriff's office, as well as many of the departments and partners in this
project.
Special notice is drawn to the dedication of the Kittitas Board of County Commissioners
to finance this project with no new taxes. Funding is
from bonds being paid for by the reduction of construction expenses and savings
in cost of operation. Partners in the use of the jail, mostly the cities in Kittitas
County, are already paying to use the jail and the hope is to keep the current costs
in check for many years to come.
The picture of the ground breaking ceremony shows the use of old shovels
as a symbol of using what we have in a cost effective approach. This is
not a gold painted project so we did not use gold painted new shovels to start the
project. The partners, Bruce Tabb Mayor of Ellensburg, and Kenn Triebelhorn of ART
Architects, are using hand shovels to participate in the effort just as the partners
are all participating in this much needed jail construction.
